Assembly over, general strike coming up

November 16, 2008

There’s way too much to write about regarding the assembly. It was the first national assembly of this movement and it seemed successful. People from universities all over the country contributed to discussions about how to continue the struggle.

There was a proposal about the next day of mobilization in the end of November which would make way for the generalized general strike that is taking place on 12 November.

Videos from Friday

These videos are from Friday 14/11/2008, the national demonstration of the Italian faculties and universities in mobilization. The first video shows what Sapienza looked like in the morning. Pretty crowded. And it was only one part of the big demo, other parts joined later. The second video is shot during the march through the city. The last one is from Montecitorio, the Parliament square, where the demo ended.

The most intense moment was probably when people in the front headed to the small narrow streets leading to Montecitorio and started running. However, there were hardly any moments of confrontation in any phase of the demo. Practically of course the demo was shutting down the traffic. When the first ones arrived to Montecitorio, the end of the parade was still far away.
